CALIFORNIA – Nurse Next Door, a national homebuyer assistance program for nurses and healthcare professionals, announced on January 8 expanded support with grants up to $9,000 and down payment assistance up to $24,000.

This is an increase from last year’s funding levels of $8,000 in grants and $15,000 in down payment assistance.

Officials say the increase in funding aims to help more nurses tackle rising housing costs amid national home price growth.

Nurse Next Door director of operations James Hadley said nurses are essential to the health and well-being of communities.

“By raising the assistance amounts, we’re reaffirming our commitment to helping these healthcare professionals overcome affordability barriers and achieve the dream of homeownership,” Hadley said.

Nurse Next Door tracks over 200 programs

California’s housing market remains costly, with a median home price projected to be around $905,000 in 2026. Sales are expected to rise slightly, but affordability continues to challenge first-time buyers.

Nurse Next Door said it tracks over 200 grant and down payment programs, including its own Nurse Next Door grant, to help eligible homebuyers nationwide.

Criteria for program awards include:

  • Employment as a nurse or qualified healthcare professional.

  • Meeting income, location, and home purchase price requirements.

  • Satisfying lender and financing program conditions.
