CALIFORNIA — NerdWallet announced December 18 that a California resident has won a $100,000 cash prize as part of its ongoing “Debt-Free December” sweepstakes.

The sweepstakes, hosted by personal finance website NerdWallet, is giving away $100,000 every day from Dec. 1 through Dec. 25, as part of its effort to help participants pay down debt or reach financial goals.

The promotion is open to legal residents of all 50 U.S. states and Washington, D.C., ages 18 or older.

Winner plans to help friend, invest in new venture

NerdWallet confirmed the latest winner, Brennan Ackerman of California, who says the unexpected prize is helping him pay off debt and kickstart new plans for the coming year.

Ackerman, who previously worked as a product manager before stepping back from corporate life, said he plans to use a portion of his winnings to clear credit card debt, take a short trip, and support family and friends.

“I think I’m going to start by paying off my credit card debt, which is really cool, and then maybe take a short trip,” Ackerman said.

He also said he hopes to help a friend with moving costs and invest in a new entrepreneurial idea.
