VICTORVILLE — Jazz music combined with political commentary fills the High Desert airwaves Saturday night and Sunday morning on the Muse N Music Live Internet Radio podcast. Host and producer Bruce McGhee has a message to the community — don’t be afraid to tell the truth.
“I think people have a tendency to be afraid of the truth,” said McGhee. “People are so politically correct these days, you can’t say how you feel because people are afraid of offending people.”
The retired Victor Valley College self defense instructor discusses voter suppression, police brutality and other issues affecting the Black community. McGhee, on occasion, compares his time in the military to his civilian life to point out the injustices he has experienced.
“I’ve been stopped by some good police officers. I’ve been stopped by some bad police officers. I’ve been surrounded with guns pulled on me by police officers because I fit that description,” said McGhee. “I expected that from the enemy, because the enemy was there to kill me, but you don’t expect that from people you’re trying to service — you’re teaching their children.”
Ultimately the community — of all nationalities, came to his support.
McGhee says he’s been in entertainment since he was a kid studying music in elementary school. When he moved to the High Desert in 1983, he began DJing. He eventually set up a recording studio, then COVID struck. It was at that time that he got into radio. He says he loves how radio gives him an opportunity to bring people together.
There’s power in supporting each other and networking and once we learn that concept we’ll be okay.
