CALIFORNIA –  California residents whose information was compromised in a U-Haul data breach that occurred in September 2022 or December 2023 are eligible to collect $100.

The moving company agreed to settle in a $5 million class action lawsuit.

Data breach

According to the Kroll Settlement Administration website, two data incidents occurred where it was determined that an unauthorized third party may have gained access to certain U-Haul files containing sensitive customers’ personal information, including names and driver’s license numbers.

U-Haul denies any wrongdoing and denies that it has any liability but has agreed to settle the lawsuit on a class wide basis.

The settlement administrator says to be eligible to make a claim, the customer must have received a Notice of Recent Security Incident letter related to either U-Haul Data Incident and resided in California at any time during either incident, between November 5, 2021, to April 5, 2022, or on about December 5, 2023.
