High Desert America’s Job Center holding hiring event in response to United Furniture Industries mass layoff

VICTORVILLE –  High Desert America’s Job Center is holding a special Rapid Response hiring event for United Furniture Industries (UFI) employees who were recently laid off from the Victorville distribution center. The hiring event, on December 8, is also open to anyone looking for employment.

UFI notified employees, Monday, November 21, at 11:49 p.m. via email, saying, “We ask that all employees not report to their work locations tomorrow November 22, 2022.”

Another email was sent to all UFI employees at 12:42 a.m. Tuesday.

The immediate termination applies to all employees with the exception of “over-the-road drivers that are out on delivery,” the memo said. “Your layoff from the Company is expected to be permanent and all benefits will be terminated immediately without provision of COBRA.”

UFI has distribution centers in Victorville, Winston-Salem, NC, and Verona, MS. It is estimated that 2,700 employees were laid off a few days before the Thanksgiving holiday.

High Desert America’s Job Center Rapid Response hiring event is for those recently terminated employees and anyone looking for employment. Employers will be on hand reviewing resumes and offering employment on the spot.
