NEWBERRY SPRINGS – Fun, games, food, craft vendors and “lots of pistachios” are awaiting at the 24th annual Pistachio Festival taking place this weekend at Newberry Springs Community Park.

Newberry Springs is located 30 miles east of Barstow with a population of less than 3,000 people. Since its early days, the area has been a source of water for the surrounding region. The Mojave Aquifer, the largest in the Western United States, makes possible a number of man-made lakes and diverse agriculture in Newberry Springs.

The unincorporated community’s access to this groundwater and its consistent climate has created an ideal environment for pistachio farming. Pistachio growers showcase their harvest at the annual festival.

The Newberry Springs Chamber of Commerce is hosting the all-volunteer event this year. The community is invited to come meet the mascot, view the art exhibit, pet mini-critters, hear the live band and watch the gunfight entertainment.

Additional activities throughout the day include:

  • Main Street Murals Art Competition
  • Kickball Tournament
  • Pistachio Harvest Tournament
  • A silent auction to raise money for Newberry School 5th grade science camp students
  • Entertainment by Ranger Wayne and Jimbo

Admission to the festival is free. Newberry Springs Community Park is located at 30884 Newberry Road, Newberry Springs. The festival is taking place Saturday, November 5th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on the event visit https://newberryspringschamber.com/newberry-springs-pistachio-festival
