CALIFORNIA – There are 11 banks currently in the process of closing in California, according to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The closings, in addition to the 80 previous bank closures in 2024, are attributed to a move towards online banking.

Banks must notify OCC at least 90 days before a location’s closing date. The OCC posts the branch closing notifications in weekly bulletins.

According to American Banker, banks are investing more in their online platforms, where analysts say that customers prefer to handle increasingly more of their banking transactions. As a result, fewer branches are needed.
