The Hunchback of Notre Dame auditions — March 21 at the Cultural Arts Center of the High Desert

VICTORVILLE — Phil 413 Productions is holding auditions for their next play The Hunchback of Notre Dame, March 21, at the Cultural Arts Center of the High Desert in Old Town Victorville.

“It’s a beautiful story and it really shines a light on accepting people who are different from you. No one deserves to be treated badly because of what they look like,” said Phil 413 Productions creative director Amber Valentina.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the story of Quasimodo, the hunchback bell-ringer of Notre-Dame, and his tragic love for Esmeralda, the beautiful gypsy woman. It is a tale of love doomed by injustice and hypocrisy.

Auditions

Valentina invites late teens and adult actors to audition for the production. She says actors should be prepared to dance and sing a short song in the style of the show.

“Make sure you are familiar with the show and the roles you are auditioning for,” said Valentina. “Pick a song that really aids in your story telling abilities.”

There will be a small stipend paid based on ticket sales.

Cultural Arts Center of the High Desert

The Cultural Arts Center of the High Desert started as a USO Club in 1941 where many of the greats from the early Hollywood era came to entertain including Les Brown, Dean Martin, Dinah Shore, and Frank Sinatra.

On August 1, 2020, the building caught fire and suffered damage to the roof, south side exterior, and smoke damage to the interior. The City of Victorville, along with community-minded patrons of the arts, repaired the damages and doors re-opened in 2022.

A Grand Re-Opening Gala Event is slated to take place sometime in 2024.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame audition is taking place Thursday March 21 at 6 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Center of the High Desert located at 15615 8th Street in Victorville. For more information visit https://www.phil413productions.com/
