CALIFORNIA – The Kauai Police Department announced that a California visitor died after being pulled from waters off Anini Beach Park.

On Monday, October 6, at approximately 3 p.m., first responders were dispatched to Anini Beach Park for a swimmer in distress.

According to preliminary reports, Todd Wilt, 61, of Hesperia, experienced difficulty in the water and was helped to shore, where he later collapsed.

Lifeguards with the Ocean Safety Bureau began CPR, and medics transported Wilt to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.

Despite continued life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.

Kauai beach known for calm waters

Anini Beach Park is known for its calm, shallow waters, protected by one of Hawaii’s longest coral reefs.

The tranquil lagoon makes it a favorite spot for swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding.

While the water is often calm, visitors have noted that strong currents can occur, especially in certain areas or on specific days.
