PlumpJack taps Breakthru Beverage for CA distribution as RNDC exits state

Published on

CALIFORNIA – PlumpJack Collection announced on July 31 that it named Breakthru Beverage Group (BBG) its new statewide distributor in California.

PlumpJack was founded in 1995 by Governor Gavin Newsom and philanthropist Gordon Getty. This recent move follows Republic National Distributing Company’s (RNDC) planned exit from California in September 2025.

RNDC was the collection’s previous Northern California distributor.

Earlier this month, RNDC notified the state that it would be laying off 1,756 employees. This decision comes as the company prepares to cease operations in California after losing contracts with two major brands.

BBG has been a longtime partner of PlumpJack

The PlumpJack Collection, founded with PlumpJack Estate Winery, now includes CADE Estate, Odette Estate, and Adaptation wines from Napa Valley. All wines are distributed nationally.

The company said that BBG has been its longtime distributor in Arizona.

“Their existing knowledge of the PlumpJack Collection, coupled with the success they’ve demonstrated in Arizona made them the natural choice for our California business,” said PlumpJack managing partner John Conover.

The transition to BBG begins August 1 in Northern California and September 1 in Southern California, maintaining distribution coverage in one of PlumpJack’s key markets.

Newsom placed PlumpJack in a blind trust

Although Newsom co-founded the PlumpJack Collection and retains an ownership interest, he placed his holdings into a blind trust in 2018 to avoid conflicts of interest while in office.

Under this arrangement, he is legally barred from participating in the company’s daily operations or business decisions.
