Over 50 additional Rite Aid stores closing in California

CALIFORNIA – Rite Aid listed an additional 50 stores in California – and over 100 nationwide, that it would be closing in a bankruptcy court filing.

The company plans to close more than 700 of its 1,240 remaining stores across the country.

This seventh round of closures are mostly taking place in California (56 stores), New York (24 stores) and Pennsylvania (19 stores).

Rite-Aid announced in May that it was filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and it was working to facilitate a smooth transfer of customer prescriptions to other pharmacies.

CVS stated it has agreed to acquire the prescription files of 625 Rite Aid pharmacies across 15 states in areas that CVS serves, as well as acquire and operate 64 Rite Aid stores in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. 

Walgreens has also agreed to acquire prescription files from select Rite Aid pharmacy locations in nine states.
