Mail thieves arrested thanks to Apple Valley resident’s quick reporting

APPLE VALLEY – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSD) announced that on June 10, at approximately 1:51 a.m., deputies with the Apple Valley Station were alerted to a possible mail theft in progress in the 21000 block of Sitting Bull Road. 

The reporting party provided Sheriff’s Dispatch the vehicle description, which was a black sport utility vehicle.

Deputies responded and located a vehicle matching the description in the area. 

A traffic stop was initiated and the occupants of the vehicle, Monica Taylor, 40 of Victorville and Charles Miller, 24, of Apple Valley were detained. Mail for numerous addresses and suspected methamphetamine were located inside the vehicle. 

Suspect was released after posting bail

Taylor and Miller were transported to the High Desert Detention Center for booking. 

Taylor was booked for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Stolen Mail, and Petty Theft with Prior Convictions. She was later released after posting bail. 

Miller was booked for Possession of Stolen mail and is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.

SBCSD said Proposition 36 – “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act” includes new Penal and Health and Safety Codes that deputies applied during this arrest.
