Agency laying off over 1,600 workers at popular discount clothing warehouse centers

CALIFORNIA  – DMSI, an industrial staffing agency, reported to the California Employment Development Department (EDD) that they would be laying off over 1,600 workers effective January 26, 2025.

The locations listed for permanent layoffs listed on the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice are Ross distribution centers in Shafter, Moreno Valley and Perris.

These layoffs contribute to the broader trend of logistics job cuts nationwide.

According to Freight Waves, 2,402 job cuts were announced by companies in Arizona, California, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio and Texas in November 2024.

The cuts might signal a reduced demand in the logistics industry or a shift in how businesses manage staffing needs.

Other pending CA logistics job layoffs

The WARN notice also lists other logistics companies with pending layoffs.

Mountain Valley Express, a regional less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier, is laying off 74 employees across California in January.

GXO Logistics Supply Chain Inc. has already laid off 345 in San Bernardino County. Another 25 employees will be cut this coming February.

WARN 60 days prior to mass layoff

DMSI notified EDD of the mass layoffs in November of last year.

The WARN report provides detailed information on employment layoffs and closures.

Under the WARN Act, employers with 100 or more employees must give a 60-day notice before any plant closing or mass layoffs. This allows workers and their families time to prepare for employment loss.
