Curtis Fisher: Horror short “Kildren” based on Rural Life

Published on

APPLE VALLEY — A dark night in the desert sets the scene for the short film “Kildren” as a woman discovers unexpected visitors on her ranch. Filmmaker Curtis Fisher lures viewers in for a terrifying look into rural life.

“The inspiration came from just living on a ranch and the quietness and darkness that you experience living way out,” said Fisher. “It would be spooky to suddenly be visited by small children like beings.”

Fisher has made over 20 short films and 1 feature length film. He says he was always a movie buff growing up as a kid and used to draw and make flipbooks in class.

“I used to create stories at home with tape recorders using homemade sound effects like the shower for rain and any other thing I needed,” said Fisher. “Universal Studios was one of my favorite theme parks. That’s where I learned the art of foleying which is making sound effects with practical things around you.”

The self-taught filmmaker says he specializes in horror because the genre is a lot cheaper to make and he’s a big fan of scary movies.

“Filmmaking is rewarding even if you’re not getting distribution in the major studios,” said Fisher.

For something you enjoy you should just do it because it’s a good way to learn all aspects of the filmmaking process.
