HESPERIA – Veterans Day celebrations around the High Desert continue the tradition of honoring men and women who have served the country. There are several events planned for this week.

Wednesday, November 9th, 2022

Phelan

Tri-Community Kiwanis Club is hosting its annual Kiwanis High Desert Veterans Dinner at Serrano High School from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The dinner started 27 years ago with 100 attendees and has grown to over 1,000. Junior high and high school students run the event as a “way to bridge the gap from generation to generation”.

While tickets are free, attendees must have a ticket to enter. Due to demand and limited seating, there are limited tickets available. Each veteran attendee and their guest must have a ticket. Victorville

The City of Victorville is hosting its 26th Annual Veterans Parade and Ceremony from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Old Town Victorville. 

The parade, scheduled for 9 a.m., will begin at the corner of 7th Street and Tracy and proceed to the corner of 7th Street and Forrest Avenue where the ceremony will take place following the conclusion of the parade.

Hesperia

The Hesperia Recreation and Park District is honoring veterans at their 2022 Veterans Day Ceremony at the Hesperia Lake Park War Memorial beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Recreation and Park District invites the community to attend and “show their support and appreciation of United States veterans for their service to the country and sacrifices made to defend our nation.”

The Hesperia Lake Park War Memorial is located at 7500 Arrowhead Lake Road in Hesperia.

Haven for Horses

Haven for Horses is a local nonprofit with the mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abused, neglected, auction and slaughter-bound horses. They offer equine therapy programs to veterans, active service members and first responders. 

In observance of Veterans Day, Haven for Horses is providing a free chili lunch beginning at 2 p.m. They will also take this time to introduce their Heroes Healing with Horses Program – a free equine therapeutic program for all veterans and active duty members.

For the chili lunch, veterans and active service members must present military ID and for a $5 donation, immediate family will be offered lunch.
