CALIFORNIA – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified, on October 28, Angelo Jose Saldivar, 47, of San Bernardino, as the murder suspect accused of killing a Rancho Cucamonga deputy.

Saldivar is not affiliated with law enforcement and remains hospitalized.

An update will be released early next week or sooner if new information becomes available.

Deputy Andrew Nunez pronounced dead

On Monday, October 27, 2025, at approximately 12:37 p.m., Rancho Cucamonga deputies responded to a home in the 12300 block of Hollyhock Drive after reports of an armed man threatening a woman.

When deputies arrived, they came under immediate gunfire, and Deputy Andrew Nunez was struck. He was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect fled the scene, leading deputies and other agencies on a pursuit eastbound along the 210 Freeway at speeds exceeding 150 mph.

A narcotics deputy in an unmarked Sheriff’s vehicle used a pursuit intervention technique on the 210 Freeway at Campus Avenue, ending the chase.

The suspect was hospitalized and is in stable condition. He will be booked on murder charges once medically cleared.

Newsom directs flags flown at half-staff

In honor of Nunez, Governor Gavin Newsom directed that flags at the State Capitol and Capitol Annex Swing Space be flown at half-staff.

“On behalf of all Californians, Jennifer and I extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Deputy Nunez,” Newsom said. “His courage, compassion and dedication to protecting others reflect the finest traditions of law enforcement. We honor his life and service with gratitude; may his sacrifice never be forgotten.”

The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail is investigating. Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 909-890-4904.
