SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY – As the new school year begins, San Bernardino County students are encouraged to claim their share of $177 million in CalKIDS Scholarships, California’s program supporting college education.

Roughly 78% of San Bernardino County public school students in grades 2–12 have CalKIDS accounts that will hold $500 for college. Students in foster care or experiencing homelessness may receive additional one-time boosts, bringing their total scholarship to $1,500.

Launched in 2022 and administered by the ScholarShare Investment Board, CalKIDS automatically creates accounts for eligible students, helping families take the first step toward college.

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma said the funds aren’t just dollars—they’re an investment in our children’s dreams and in California’s future.

“Every child deserves both the belief and the support to make their dreams real,” said Ma.

Claim a scholarship

Students can visit CalKIDS.org to claim their scholarship accounts, which are set aside in their name but must be claimed.

At age 17, once enrolled in an accredited college or career training program, students can request a disbursement – sent directly to the institution, to cover tuition and fees, books and supplies, or computer equipment.

More than 630,000 California students and families have already claimed their accounts. San Bernardino County students are encouraged to do the same this school year.

To claim a scholarship, students can visit CalKIDS.org, enter the student’s Statewide Student Identifier (SSID), and follow the online prompts.
