CALIFORNIA – Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino, located on the California-Nevada border in Primm, Nevada, is closing indefinitely

The Clark County Commission approved a temporary closure of at least two years, with the possibility of two six-month extensions.

During this period, the property will remain open for select concerts and special events approximately eight to ten times per year, as required to maintain its gaming license. The Star of the Desert, a 6,500-seat venue, will continue to host these events.

This marks the second casino closure by parent company Affinity Interactive in the area within a year, following the shutdown of Whiskey Pete’s last December.

Decrease in traffic post-pandemic

Buffalo Bill’s, known for its log flume ride and the Desperado roller coaster, opened in 1994 and has seen reduced traffic since the pandemic. The slowdown in activity has limited profitable operations primarily to weekends.

Affinity Interactive now operates only Primm Valley Resort and Casino, which will maintain 24/7 operations.

Hopeful new airport to boost business

The closure is part of a broader strategy to reposition Primm as a gateway for Southern Californians traveling to Nevada. Affinity Interactive has expressed hopes that a new airport between Jean and Primm will boost business, though construction is not expected to begin for several years.

The airport is projected to open by 2037.
