Rumors are circulating online that stimulus checks up to $2,000 will be sent out to American taxpayers in the coming months.
As of July 25, 2025, there is no official legislation or IRS announcement authorizing a new $2,000 stimulus payment.
Some news sites have also claimed a $1,390 stimulus check will go out mid-2025, to individuals earning under $75,000 per year and couples earning under $150,000.
This claim is false. The only federal stimulus-related payments issued in 2025 were Recovery Rebate Credit checks totaling $2.4 billion to approximately 1 million taxpayers, according to the IRS.
These were not new stimulus checks.
They were distributed to individuals who failed to claim the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit, which was meant for those who missed one or more COVID-19-era Economic Impact Payments. Eligible taxpayers had until April 15, 2025 to file their 2021 tax returns in order to qualify.
Status of $5,000 DOGE dividend checks
Earlier this year, Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) senior advisor Elon Musk announced plans for a proposed $5,000 “stimulus” check to American taxpayers.
The funds were expected to come from savings generated by cuts to government contracts, real estate, grants, and workforce reductions.
However, Fluent in Finance founder Andrew Lokenauth noted that the plan was never formalized.
“…since DOGE hasn’t even started formal stimulus planning, there’s nothing concrete to continue or cancel … there’s no legal framework, no congressional approval and no actual funding source,” said Lokenauth.
As of now, the Trump administration has not released any new details on official DOGE stimulus checks.
