Cal Water to own, operate Silverwood Development’s wastewater and recycled water systems

HESPERIA – Cal Water announced June 24 that it will expand operations by owning and operating the wastewater and recycled water systems for Silverwood, a new mixed-use community in San Bernardino County.

Cal Water is the largest subsidiary of California Water Service Group (NYSE: CWT), whose subsidiaries provide water, wastewater, and recycled water utility services across the western United States.

Once the wastewater plant is complete, Cal Water will serve 500 connections currently handled by the City of Hesperia.

Silverwood is expected to have over 15,000 connections at full buildout.

Cal Water will assume ownership of wastewater and recycled water systems in phases as they are completed.

Silverwood will become new Cal Water district

Cal Water Chairman and CEO Martin A. Kropelnicki said they look forward to their partnership with DMB Development to serve Silverwood and support environmental sustainability.

“As families seek to put down roots in this area, we are dedicated to helping improve their quality of life by focusing on the same high standard of quality, service, and value that we provide to customers throughout our service areas,” said Kropelnicki.

Ownership transfers are subject to conditions, with the Silverwood system becoming a new Cal Water district under California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) oversight.

Cal Water serves over 2.1 million people statewide through 499,400 connections. Cal Water has been recognized as one of Newsweek’s “Most Responsible” and “Most Trustworthy” companies and a top USA workplace.
