ADELANTO – The city of Adelanto announced February 25, that in response to the growing housing demand, D.R. Horton is constructing over 300 new residences in Adelanto.

The city said this development includes models with Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), also known as granny flats or backyard cottages, offering extra living space for family or rental income.

In September 2024, Governor Gavin Newsom signed three ADU bills that took effect on January 1, 2025. SB 1211 simplifies ADU permitting to encourage housing development.

Adelanto mayor Gabriel Reyes said the inclusion of ADUs provides more flexibility for homeowners while increasing the availability of affordable living options.

“This is about giving families more choices and supporting responsible development in our community,” said Reyes.

Seneca Pointe new homes start in the $470s

According to the California Department of Housing and Community Development, during the last ten years, housing production averaged fewer than 80,000 new homes each year.

In addition, ongoing production continues to fall below the projected need of 180,000 additional homes annually.

To tackle the issue, the state is exploring various solutions, including promoting the construction of new homes, expanding accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and streamlining development processes.

According to the D.R. Horton website, the new Seneca Pointe community in Adelanto features a collection of two-story homes ranging from 1,775 sq. ft. to 1,874 sq. ft. with up to 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.

Home prices start at $470,000.

Seneca Pointe homes feature a connected smart home system and have no Homeowners Association (HOA) fee.

Reyes said as the city works to grow Adelanto in a way that benefits both current and future residents, expanding housing opportunities is critical.

Adding ADUs to existing properties

Homeowners can also benefit from new laws that streamline the ADU permitting process.

The city recommends homeowners consult with the Planning Department if they wish to add an ADU to their property.

Their team helps with design, permits, and rules to make adding ADUs to properties easy.
