California invests in apprenticeships
California has increased its investment in apprenticeship programs in recent years to enhance workforce development across various industries.
In the 2022–2023 state budget, over $231 million was allocated for apprenticeship-related spending, with plans to invest more than $480 million over the subsequent three years.
Funding includes $65 million to create a youth apprenticeship grant program, $15 million to fund a unit that works to advance women in construction, and an increase of over 30% to the reimbursement rate for training in building and construction apprenticeships.
In addition, $175 million went towards creating the Apprenticeship Innovation Funding (AIF) for programs that include working with technologies like robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and 3D printing.
AIF recently awarded $46,000 to VVC for their advanced manufacturing program to serve 28 apprentices.
