VICTORVILLE – Amazon Teamsters went on strike nationwide, December 19, including at three Southern California facilities – Victorville, City of Industry, and Palmdale, in what they are calling the largest strike against Amazon in American history.
The union says nearly 10,000 Amazon workers have mobilized a movement and joined the Teamsters in a fight for higher wages, better benefits, and safer conditions at work.
Amazon denies their workers are on strike
In a December 20 Facebook post, the union says Amazon is denying their workers are on strike.
“Amazon denies responsibility for their workers and denies that they are on strike. Amazon needs a reality check. Thousands of Amazon Teamsters nationwide are on the picket line right now demanding their rights!” says the Facebook post.
The union says the nationwide action follows Amazon’s repeated refusal to follow the law and bargain with the thousands of Amazon workers who organized with the Teamsters.
“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it,” said Teamsters general president Sean M. O’Brien.
Teamsters say local unions are also putting up primary picket lines at hundreds of Amazon Fulfillment Centers nationwide.
Pushing false narrative
An Amazon spokesperson previously stated that the Teamsters have continued to intentionally mislead the public by claiming to represent thousands of Amazon employees, while also being the subject of multiple pending unfair labor practice charges.
