ADELANTO – The City of Adelanto, announced November 25, that they are hosting their annual Handlebars for Christmas Giveaway.

Students in the Adelanto Elementary School District will get a chance to win a brand new bicycle while helping to support local community food pantries.

Consumers are donating less

The city is asking for non-expired canned or boxed food item donations for entry into the bicycle giveaway.

The food drive comes amid a 2.4% inflation rate, with prices overall still 21.4% higher since the pandemic-induced recession began in February 2020.

A 2023 food bank survey found that rising food and grocery costs as the number one reason for consumers donating less during the holiday season.

The city says every food item donated will support community pantries that feed families in need.
