High Desert’s 1st manufacturing hiring event scheduled for Nov. 21

VICTORVILLE – High Desert America’s Job Center of California is hosting a manufacturing hiring event, November 21 – the first to take place in the High Desert.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, manufacturing employees earned an average hourly wage of $27.96 in July 2024.

The hiring event is an opportunity for job seekers to connect with employers, showcase skills, get advice from industry professionals and learn about training or apprenticeship opportunities.

US manufacturing could need 3.8 million new employees by 2033

A 2024 Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute’s report found that US manufacturing could need as many as 3.8 million new employees by 2033.

65% of respondents in the National Association of Manufacturers’ 2024 Q1 outlook said filling open positions — and keeping them filled — is a top concern.

“As retiring Baby Boomers are replaced by incoming millennials and Gen Z workers, the industry should invest in strategies aligned with workforce expectations, including more flexibility,” says the report.

The researchers go on to say that nearly half (47%) of respondents in the study indicated that flexible work arrangements (including flexible shifts, shift swapping and split shifts) is most impactful for retaining employees.

Fastest growing manufacturing jobs

The study said the demand for digital skills is accelerating as operations and products become more complex.

Roles like statisticians, data scientists, engineers, logisticians, computer and information systems managers, software developers, and industrial maintenance technicians are likely to grow at the fastest pace between 2022 and 2032.

For production roles, the fastest growing are likely to be those that require higher-level skill sets like semiconductor processing technicians, machinists, first-line supervisors, welders, and electronics and electromechanical assemblers.
