Victorville makes CA’s top 10 cities with the largest numeric change in population

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY – The California Department of Finance published, last month, a report that lists Victorville in the top 10 cities with a population less than 300,000, as having the largest numeric change.

According to the report, the State Controller’s Office uses Finance’s estimates to update their population figures for distribution of state money to cities and counties, and to comply with various state codes.  

Victorville Number 7 on the list

Victorville grew by 1,856 people – a 1.4% increase, between 2023 to 2024 and came in number 7 on the list. The top city on the list is Manteca in San Joaquin County which grew by 2,365 people. 

California City came in last on the list – the population declined by 1,743 people.

In addition, the report says statewide housing growth increased to 0.79 percent in 2023, reinforcing the growth in population. California added 115,933 housing units on net, including 22,802 accessory dwelling units (ADUs), to bring total housing in the state to 14,824,827 units. 

According to California Population and Housing Estimates, Victorville added 496 housing units during 2023.

 

Other High Desert population changes

Other changes in population in the High Desert region from January 1, 2023 to January 1, 2024 are:

  • Apple Valley had a -0.2% change in population – a 178 person decrease.
  • Barstow had a -0.4% change in population – a 90 person decrease.
  • Hesperia had a 0.8% change in population – a 749 person increase.
  • Adelanto had a -0.8% change in population – a 291 person decrease.

San Bernardino County overall had a 0.4% increase in population – 8,739 people.
