Water bill assistance grant up to $15,00 depleted in San Bernardino County

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY – Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) posted an announcement on their website that they will no longer accept Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) applications for one-time grants up to $15,000.

According to the CAPSBC, the available funding for this program has been depleted.

“All pending LIHWAP applications received prior to this notice posting will be reviewed for eligibility and processed subject to funding availability,” said the website announcement.

The site also says that there is no guarantee that all client applications processed will meet the eligibility requirements, and that they encourage all clients to continue making payments to their local water agency to avoid service shutoffs.

“CAPSBC staff will communicate with clients regarding the status of their submitted applications,” said the announcement on the site.

Canceled event in Hesperia

In addition, the City of Hesperia canceled a December 5th event helping residents to complete LIHWAP applications due to the depleted funding.

LIHWAP

Prior to funding depletion, CAPSBC provided financial assistance up to $15,000 to pay the water bill for qualifying households.

Congress established LIHWAP in December 2020 and allocated California $116 million in one-time funding for LIHWAP to help reduce the burden of water and wastewater costs for low-income households.
