LAKE ELSINORE — The Corona Angels 12U won 8 to 6, Sunday, against Athletics Mercado taking home the Triple Crown Tournament Championship. Under Coach Travis Kamora’s leadership, team member Amaya Sigala hit a triple to help her team get into a scoring position.

“We were able to defeat a very difficult team as a big combined effort,” said Sigala. “We had big hits from multiple players. And in the bottom of the 7th inning we were up 8-6, the opposing team had two runners on base — in scoring position with a big hitter on deck. Our outfielder caught her ball to end the game. It was amazing!”

This was the first Triple Crown tournament for the Fall season. Corona Angels Director Marty Tyson has coached UCLA softball pitcher Rachel Garcia and Women’s College World Series champion Morgan Stuart.

Sigala says this is her first year with the Angels but she began playing baseball in the Victorville Ribbons League at the age of four. She later went on to play with the High Desert Pony League and the HD Vipers with guidance from her mentor Ernest Salgado. With his help, Sigala says she can hit a softball as far as 220 feet.

The High Desert coaches have helped me to be able to play with my dream organization the Corona Angels,” said Sigala.

I am there now training, playing and growing to achieve my goals of earning a scholarship to play softball at UCLA like my idol Rachel Garcia.
