CALIFORNIA – Southern California gas prices are now within a dime of 2025’s lowest, following four weeks of declines, the Auto Club announced on July 17.

The average price for self-serve regular gasoline in California is $4.50, which is three cents lower than a week ago and 23 cents lower than a year ago today.

The average national price is $3.15, which is one cent lower than a week ago and 36 cents lower than on this date last year.

High refinery utilization rates are keeping supply steady

The average price of self-serve regular gasoline in the San Bernardino area is $4.38 per gallon, which is four cents lower than last week and 26 cents less than last year.

In the Los Angeles-Long Beach area the average price is $4.50 per gallon, which is three cents lower than last week and 21 cents less than last year.

“Oil Price Information Service reports that imported gasoline and high refinery utilization rates are keeping supply steady in Southern California,” said Auto Club spokesperson Doug Shupe.

High refinery utilization rates – when refineries run near full capacity, boost fuel supply, which helps lower gas prices by increasing availability and reducing cost per gallon.
