SAN BERNARDINO – San Bernardino County Children’s Network and Mentoring Task Force are recruiting mentors during National Mentoring Month in January. Every year, National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR) hosts events throughout the month to raise awareness of how “one mentor can change a young person’s life.”

Statistics show that young adults with a mentor are 130% more likely to hold leadership positions.

MENTOR, the unifying organization of youth mentoring across the United States, says there is a wide discrepancy in mentoring opportunities across California. Los Angeles and San Francisco provide many services, while the majority of the state is in need of mentors.

The San Bernardino County Mentoring Task Force is partnering with MENTOR to support the vision that every child and youth in San Bernardino County have a positive caring adult in their life.

The task force connects community members to mentoring opportunities across San Bernardino County.

The county is hosting  a series of virtual and in-person workshops to bring attention to the need for mentors throughout the region.

The workshops will inform the community on how to become a mentor to young people who face a variety of risk factors. These workshops include:

  • Becoming a Better Mentor: Strategies to Be There for Young People – Facilitating Group Interactions
  • Mentoring Task Force Lunch and Learn

The first event – Summit for Mentors and Professionals, is taking place virtually on  Jan. 17 and 24, 10 a.m. to noon.
