California rewards $50,000 for unsolved mystery, offers additional $50,000 for other cold cases

CALIFORNIA – Governor Gavin Newsom announced December 22, a $50,000 reward payment to three individuals whose tips led to Marvin Markle’s arrest and conviction for the murder of De Anna Lynn Johnson.

In 1982, 14-year-old Johnson was found dead near her Vacaville home.

Governor Gray Davis issued a reward in 2003 for tips leading to her killer’s arrest and conviction.

In 2017, Vacaville police and the Solano County DA identified the suspect through witness statements.

He was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2025.

Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams said the murder of Johnson, a young Vacaville student, rocked the entire community.

“I’m especially thankful for the citizens who were willing to come forward as they helped bring closure to De Anna Lynn’s loved ones after 40+ years,” Abrams said.

Offering $50,000 for each cold case

Newsom also announced that he has made available two $50,000 rewards for information leading to unsolved cases in Alameda and San Diego counties. 

Today’s rewards cover the following cases:

Oakland, Alameda County – Antonio Nunez

Newsom is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the murder of Antonio Nunez. 

In 2009, 16-year-old Antonio Nunez was fatally shot outside his home by an unknown assailant. Oakland police conducted interviews and pursued leads, but the suspects remain unidentified.

The Oakland Police Department have exhausted all leads and requested that a reward be offered for information. Contact Sergeant Yun Zhou at 510-238-3821.

San Diego, San Diego County – Arthur Jordan

Newsom is also offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the murder of Arthur Jordan.

In 2018, 28-year-old Arthur Jordan was fatally shot while sitting in his car by an unknown attacker. San Diego police have interviewed witnesses and potential suspects but have exhausted all leads.

At the time of his death, Jordan worked as a barber in his family’s shop. The San Diego Police Department have requested that a reward be offered for information.
