CALIFORNIA – Toys “R” Us recently announced that it is making a return this holiday season with new flagship stores and seasonal holiday shops nationwide – including in California.

The brand closed all its U.S. locations in 2018 following bankruptcy.

In a statement, Toys “R” Us parent company WHP Global confirmed a partnership with Go! Retail Group to open new flagship stores in states including California, Illinois, Maryland, Iowa, and New York.

Alongside these larger locations, smaller holiday shops will appear in malls across the country.

WHP Global executive vice president Jamie Uitdenhowen said this next phase of growth brings the magic of Toys “R” Us to more communities across the country — just in time for the holidays.

New store locations

The new Toys “R” Us flagship stores and seasonal holiday shops feature an assortment of brands, from LEGO and Barbie to Hot Wheels, NERF, and Paw Patrol.

The California flagship store is located at Camarillo Premium Outlets in Camarillo. The seasonal holiday shop is at Bay Street in Emeryville.

Since 2018 — when the company closed more than 700 U.S. stores after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with over $5 billion in debt, WHP Global has been working to rebuild the Toys “R” Us brand.

The company began by testing smaller store formats. In 2022, the brand partnered with Macy’s to operate shop-in-shop toy sections in locations across the U.S.
