State Parks’ Off-Highway Division awards $23M in grants, including projects in San Bernardino County

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY – California State Parks’ Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) Division announced September 29 more than $23 million in final awards for the 2025 Grants program.

Eighty-one local and federal agencies, districts, and nonprofit organizations – including those in San Bernardino County, received funding for off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation projects. 

The state says the grants support the Outdoors for All initiative by maintaining OHV trails, expanding access, promoting safety, protecting resources, and restoring habitats.

OHMVR Division Deputy Director Sarah Miggins said for more than 50 years, OHV grants have helped protect California’s public lands while supporting partners of every size.

“These investments will support future generations of OHV enthusiasts to become stewards of these cherished lands so they can continue to enjoy this treasured form of recreation,” she said.

San Bernardino County grant recipients

The OHMVR Division reviewed 137 projects seeking $27 million in funding and awarded $23.6 million to successful applicants.

This year’s San Bernardino County grant recipients and their projects are:

  • Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Barstow Office: $1 million for ground operations, law enforcement, education and safety projects
  • BLM Needles Office: $152,818 for law enforcement, education and safety projects
  • Hesperia Police Department: $36,090 for law enforcement project
  • San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department: $235,141 for law enforcement project
  • San Bernardino National Forest: $1 million for ground operations and law enforcement projects

Six project types

Since 1974, the OHMVR Division has awarded over $833 million in grants and assistance agreements.

This year’s 119 projects awarded by project type include:

  • Development: $713,648 (one project)
  • Planning: $578,873 (five projects)
  • Ground Operations: $13,626,947 (32 projects)
  • Restoration: $1,603,166 (4 projects)
  • Education and Safety: $1,133,179 (15 projects)
  • Law Enforcement: $6,000,000 (62 projects)
