Hertz partners with Amazon to sell used cars in California

CALIFORNIA – Hertz announced August 20 that it has joined Amazon Autos, allowing shoppers to browse, finance, and purchase from a selection of thousands of pre-owned vehicles.

Customers can browse Hertz Car Sales listings on Amazon Autos, complete purchases online, and pick up vehicles at Hertz Car Sales locations.

The rollout will start in Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, and Seattle, with plans to expand to 45 locations nationwide.

The company said the collaboration brings together Hertz Car Sales’ nationwide inventory with Amazon’s online shopping and checkout platform.

“Our goal is to reimagine the car-buying experience and meet customers where they are – whether online or in person – with convenience, confidence, and scale,” said Hertz Car Sales executive vice president Jeff Adams.

Can’t complete the full purchase online

Hertz said it offers thousands of pre-owned vehicles, many priced below Kelley Blue Book value.

Each Hertz Certified car passes a 115-point inspection and comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty, roadside assistance, and a 7-day buy-back guarantee.

Customers also get financing options, vehicle history reports, and complete much of the purchase with e-signature and pickup scheduling.

Unlike Carvana, you can’t complete the full purchase on the site.

Amazon Autos lets buyers browse, compare, and start purchases online, but final sales must be completed at the dealership to comply with legal, inspection, and state requirements.

Following the announcement, Hertz stock jumped 9% in premarket trading.

Hyundai dealerships also list pre-owned vehcicles on Amazon Autos

Amazon Autos announced earlier this month that Hyundai dealerships are listing pre-owned vehicles on the site.

Shoppers have been able to buy or lease new Hyundais since December.
