Deputies respond to Lucerne Valley disturbance; woman shot and hospitalized

LUCERNE VALLEY – Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in Lucerne Valley on July 30 at about 12:30 a.m.

Deputies arrived to find several people arguing in the street.

As deputies began their investigation, Sydney Zimmer, 21, appeared out of the darkness with a shotgun.

According to deputies, Zimmer ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon, leading to a lethal force encounter.

Zimmer was shot multiple times, and deputies provided aid until paramedics arrived. She was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division took over the investigation.
