Disaster Unemployment Assistance
The Employment Development Department (EDD) said they provide a variety of services to individuals and businesses affected by disasters in California.
Generally, there is a one-week waiting period for individuals obtaining Unemployment Insurance (UI).
The Governor’s Emergency Proclamations waive the non-payable one-week waiting period for individuals affected by current disasters. This means individuals can be paid benefits for the first week they are unemployed due to the disaster.

Recent wildfires
Several significant wildfires have impacted San Bernardino and Riverside Counties recently.
One of the largest is the Line Fire, which is still active and has burned through dense vegetation in the San Bernardino Mountains.
It prompted evacuations in Mountain Home Village, Forest Falls, Angelus Oaks and Seven Oaks affecting thousands of residents. The fire has burned over 38,000 acres and is 29% contained. There have been injuries and significant property damage reported.
In addition, the Bridge Fire near Wrightwood, also in San Bernardino County, has burned 54,000 acres and destroyed homes. Firefighters have made progress in containment, but the cause of this fire remains under investigation.
