CALIFORNIA – San Bernardino County announced August 30 that it would be raising the juror duty pay from $15 to $100 a day starting on the second day of service.

The county is one of seven that is participating in a pilot program funded by Assembly Bill 1981 to implement the pay increase which began September 3rd.

In addition, the juror mileage reimbursement rate will increase from $0.34 to $0.67 per mile roundtrip.

Improve juror diversity and participation

The Jury Pilot program will explore whether increases in juror compensation and mileage reimbursement rates improve juror diversity and participation.

“We are honored to participate in the AB1981 Jury Pilot Program, which represents a significant step forward in our commitment to ensuring that our jury pools reflect the diversity of our community,” said San Bernardino County presiding judge Lisa M. Rogan.

The other participating counties include Alameda, El Dorado, Fresno, Imperial, Monterey, and Shasta.

The county says the pilot program will end by early 2026 or when funding is exhausted, whichever comes first.

Report findings

At the conclusion of the pilot, the Judicial Council will provide a report to the California State Legislature. The report will describe the findings of the pilot program and information for promoting juror diversity.
