VICTORVILLE – Victorville is holding singing auditions, May 17, for a chance to perform at the Concerts in the Park summer concert series. Youth aged 7 to 17 will be crowned Victorville Sings! champions and win other prizes.
According to Scholastic, children who sing, dance, or act, are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement compared with their non-performing friends. They also tend to have enhanced cognitive, motor, and social development.
The Victorville Sings! Vocal Competition is for amateurs. Contestants who have sung professionally are eligible to compete if they do not currently make their living as a professional vocalist or entertainer. Any contestant who has had a recording contract within the last five years is ineligible.
The contest is limited to solo vocal entertainers – no duets or groups.
Pre-contest Judging
The Victorville Sings staff recommend a short and uptempo performance. This is to get the audience involved during the summer concert series. Pre-concert judging will also look at:
- Vocal Presentation: Vocal dynamics, which includes pitch, tone, breath control, delivery, interpretation, projection, and range.
- Wardrobe Presentation: Appearance, style, wardrobe. Judges strongly recommend costuming.
- Choreography and Entertainment ability: Judges will look at dance moves and the connection with the audience.
- Overall Performance: Is the performer in command of the performance? Do they have charisma?
The top 15 will move forward to the Concerts in the Park concert series in June 2023.
The audience will do the final judging using Polls Everywhere, a text to vote system. The Victorville Sings! Champions will be announced at the conclusion of the concert series.

Auditions will be held between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on May 17 for ages 7 -17. The registration fee is $5 per person before Monday, May 8 at 5 p.m. and $15 up until audition day. Day of audition registration will close at 1:30 p.m. All auditions will be held at Victorville Activities Center located at 15075 Hesperia Rd in Victorville.
