Dr. Broomstickle donating sales from Sept. 24 book signing to High Desert Homeless Services

VICTORVILLE – Travel to the Land of No Beauty with Chubzy and classmates to find the Magic Piper and six crystals to lift the curse, in Darlene Richardson’s book Chubzy and the Magic Piper. Richardson, better known as Dr. Broomstickle, is holding a book signing, Saturday, at the Victorville Barnes & Noble with the proceeds going to the High Desert Homeless Services.

Chubzy and the Magic Piper tells the story of Chubzy meeting his new fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Broomstickle when strange things start to happen. Mrs. Broomstickle gives the children their homework assignment – one piece of dark chocolate and an alarm clock. At midnight, the alarm clocks ring. Half of the children follow the instructions; they eat the chocolate and go back to sleep. The chocolate transforms into evil dark creatures and slips into the mouths of the innocent children, transforming them into their worst nightmare.

“When I was a kid, I was always the late night storyteller,” said Richardson. “Telling wild, scary and funny stories to my family.”

Richardson says she recently got involved with High Desert Homeless Services.

“A Goodwill worker told me that the homeless shelters in our community are in dire need of help. So I went there and immediately made a cash donation,” said Richardson. “All my life I’ve always helped someone in need and I was once in their shoes.”

Richardson says 30 years ago, she was homeless with her son.

“Instead of letting everything get to me, I began writing,” said Richardson.

The September 24 book signing will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mall of Victor Valley Barnes & Noble located at 14400 Bear Valley Rd, Victorville, CA 92392. Call 760-245-3370 for more information on the event.
