SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY – The National Weather Service alerted that an excessive heat warning will remain in effect until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 6 for San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

The warning advises that the region will be dangerously hot with high temperatures of 105 to 112. Night time conditions will be warmer with low temperatures mostly in the 70s, and will be warmest near the foothills of the mountains.

Preparedness actions

The National Weather Service provides preparedness actions to take during the excessive heat event.

The public is advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Additional Safety Tips

In addition to the recommended preparedness actions, be aware of the signs of heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, during this excessive heat warning.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

  • Recognize the Symptoms: Signs of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and a rapid pulse. Heat stroke symptoms include a high body temperature (above 103°F), confusion, and loss of consciousness.
  • Seek Shelter: If possible, spend time in cooling centers or public buildings that are air-conditioned if your home does not provide sufficient cooling.
  • Limit Outdoor Activities: Postpone strenuous activities to cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening, and take frequent breaks in the shade.
  • Pets and Heat: Ensure pets have access to plenty of water and are kept in cool, shaded areas. Never leave pets or children unattended in vehicles.

Following these additional safety measures can help reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses during the heat warning period.
