California Amazon employees to receive $565.43 for class action settlement

CALIFORNIA – California Amazon employees who received a signing bonus and/or sign-on bonus in the same workweek they worked overtime between July 22, 2017, and Nov. 7, 2023 are eligible for a class action settlement payment.

The court document estimates that the average payment to each participating settlement member will be approximately $565.43.

Amazon violated California labor laws

According to the $3 million class action settlement, Amazon violated California labor laws.

“Through the operative complaint, Plaintiffs allege that, during their employment, Defendants had a policy, pattern, and practice of failing to properly calculate and pay overtime wages and redeemed sick leave to certain non-exempt employees who earned Signing Bonuses and/or On Sign Bonuses,” says the court document.

It goes on to say that Amazon also failed to provide accurate, itemized wage statements and failed to pay all wages due at the time of separation.

Eligibility

Current and former Amazon employees in California who received a signing bonus and/or sign-on bonus in the same workweek they worked overtime between July 22, 2017, and Nov. 7, 2023 are eligible.

The court document estimates that there are approximately 3,331 total class members.

No claim form is required to receive a settlement. Class members will automatically receive a payment unless they exclude themself from the settlement.

The deadline to opt-out or object to the settlement is June 17, 2024.The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2024.
