CALIFORNIA — Authorities are investigating a second in-custody death at the West Valley Detention Center within the past week.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at about 2:59 p.m., deputies and jail medical staff responded to a medical emergency involving an inmate inside the facility.

Despite life-saving efforts, 58-year-old Adam Alex Alvidrez of Beaumont was pronounced deceased, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Alvidrez had been booked into the detention center on Oct. 9, 2025, on an aggravated battery charge.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division–Homicide Detail assumed the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Separate in-custody death

The incident follows a separate in-custody death reported days earlier at the same facility.

On Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, at about 10:54 p.m., deputies responded to a medical emergency involving 43-year-old Katie Sarah Jackson of Fontana.

Jackson was pronounced deceased after emergency measures were initiated at the facility.

She had been booked into the detention center on May 30, 2024, on suspicion of felony elder abuse.

That investigation is also being handled by the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail.

Anyone with information regarding either incident is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 909-890-4904.
