VICTORVILLE – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that on January 26, a possible human bone was reported by a man walking his dog near the end of Abbey Lane, close to Stoddard Wells Road in Victorville.

Victorville deputies responded to the scene and located the bone.

The Coroner’s Division collected the bone fragments for analysis. On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Coroner’s Division confirmed the bone was human.

The Sheriff’s Homicide Detail also responded and took over the investigation.

On Friday, January 30, 2026, the Coroner’s Division joined a search of the area where the bone was found. Several more bones and fragments were recovered, though officials believe most are animal remains.

A forensic anthropologist will determine which bones are human during the autopsy. Identification of the remains is pending DNA results.
