California invests $99 Million to grow manufacturing jobs, average pay $139,000

CALIFORNIA – Governor Gavin Newsom announced November 17 that the state has awarded $99.9 million in California Competes Tax Credits to nine companies statewide.

The governor’s office said the awards are expected to create 2,752 jobs with an average annual salary of $139,000 and generate more than $370 million in private investment.

This round of CalCompetes awards supports a broad mix of manufacturers, including companies in aerospace, wastewater treatment, and microelectronics.

Manufacturing, identified in the state’s Economic Blueprint as a sector to strengthen and accelerate, produced $405.6 billion in output in 2024 and employed more than 1.24 million workers.

List of awards

State officials said the awards support workforce, infrastructure, and innovation investments that underpin growth in the sector:

  • Atomic Machines Inc. plans to invest $156.3 million to expand its micro-electromechanical manufacturing facilities in Santa Clara, Emeryville, and the Greater East Bay, creating 305 jobs.

  • Bright Machines will expand its data center infrastructure manufacturing facility with a $62.9 million investment, creating 295 jobs in Fremont.

  • Hadrian Automation, Inc. will invest $52 million to expand its aerospace component manufacturing in Torrance and Northern California, creating 650 jobs.

  • Bella Phytologic is investing $33 million to expand its vitamin and supplement manufacturing facilities in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County, creating 82 jobs.

  • Gimme Health Foods Inc. will invest $20 million to establish a seaweed snack manufacturing facility in Madera, expand its San Rafael headquarters and create 102 jobs.

  • Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company (California) LLC will invest $18 million to expand its diagnostic and measurement device manufacturing facility in Hollister and create 97 jobs.

  • Community Infrastructure Investment Group, Inc. will invest $12.8 million to open a wastewater treatment equipment manufacturing facility in Fresno and create 47 jobs.

  • True Anomaly will invest $12.7 million to expand its satellite manufacturing facilities in Long Beach, creating 400 jobs.

  • Color Image Apparel will invest $2.5 million to expand its Beverly Hills headquarters, creating 774 jobs.

To date, CalCompetes has awarded tax credits to more than 1,200 businesses, supporting the creation of nearly 160,000 full-time California jobs and generating over $50 billion in private investment. 

At the same time, the California Competes Tax Credit (CCTC) Committee recently approved the recapture of funds from 21 companies that failed to meet their agreement terms. 

Notable full recaptures include Better Holdco, Inc., Moxion Power Co., and Sorrento Therapeutics, Inc., each for $25 million, while others, such as American Honda Finance Corporation and ByFusion Global, Inc., had partial amounts reclaimed.
