HESPERIA – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that a deputy was arrested on August 5 for extortion and soliciting a bribe.

Cameron Romo, 27, of Rialto, was placed on compulsory leave and arrested by the Specialized Investigations Division on a warrant.

He was booked at the Central Detention Center with bail set at $90,000.

Citizen complaint alleged on-duty crimes

In June 2024, a citizen complaint alleged on-duty crimes by Romo. He was placed on administrative leave, and the Specialized Investigations Division launched an investigation.

Investigators found Romo committed multiple on-duty crimes as a deputy assigned to the Hesperia Station.

The investigation was submitted to the San Bernardino County DA’s Office.

On August 4, 2025, the DA’s Office filed felony charges against Romo for extortion and soliciting a bribe, issuing a warrant for his arrest.

Romo has been a deputy since September 2020 and assigned to the Hesperia Station since August 2021.

“This is unfortunate that a Deputy Sheriff would engage in this type of behavior. I am proud of all the investigators involved in bringing this case to the District Attorney’s Office so he can be held accountable,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Shannon Dicus.

Investigation ongoing

San Bernardino County Sheriff says the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Detective Antonio Alcala, Specialized Investigations Division, at (909) 890-4904.
