HESPERIA – Homebuyer education, closing costs assistance and senior services are a few of the topics that will be discussed at the High Desert Association of Realtors’ (HDAOR) upcoming workshop. For Fair Housing Month, the association will be hosting a free event, April 20, featuring speakers, resources and a continental breakfast.

Fair Housing Month is observed every April to raise awareness about equal housing opportunities for all. It marks the anniversary of the passing of the Fair Housing Act on April 11, 1968.

The act prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing. The month is dedicated to educating the public about their rights under the law and promoting diversity in housing.

HDAOR Fair Housing Day

HDAOR Fair Housing Day workshop will feature:

• Inland Fair Housing & Mediation Board – Fair housing services, landlord/tenant and mobile home mediation, housing counseling, alternative dispute resolution, and senior services.
• San Bernardino County Sheriff Department – Will be discussing: ‘Crime Prevention for Residential Housing 2023 and Beyond’. 
• NPHS Inc.– Programs and services that create intergenerational wealth for underserved communities of color, they make strides towards closing the racial wealth gap and creating neighborhoods where all families have the opportunity to achieve housing and economic security. Up to $100,000 in down payment assistance. 
• City of Victorville, Homelessness Solutions Task Force – Learn what the city of Victorville is doing to address the homelessness and at-risk population and the development of the Wellness Center Campus.

Other topics that will be covered include Homeless Runaway Youth program, ADU programs, and the Apple Valley Residential Loan rehab program.

HDAOR strives to support the needs of the High Desert communities it serves. In addition to hosting educational workshops, the HDAOR sponsors several fundraising events each year. 

The HDAOR Fair Housing Day workshop is taking place on April 20, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. at 11890 Hesperia Rd. in Hesperia.
